Pitch Post 3 - Sub-genre by Sharmin Sardar

What type of (sub-genre) of Teen Film is it?

Which real teen film title sequences have inspired you and why?

We had watched the title sequences of 'Kidulthood' and 'Boyz N the Hood' which had given us ideas and inspired us to create our own title sequences using some aspects from the ones we had analysed and watched. However, although our title sequence will use the inspired ideas, we will change it up by adding our own such as using our choice of animations and music.

As both title sequences are dull and in black and white, we have been inspired to use more colour as we think it will make the title sequence more attractive to the audiences eyes. However, we also think we will use interesting and big font in capitals like both the title sequences did as it looks more interesting and relates to the sub-genre 'Teen crime' as the font looks like graffiti and relates to the 'hood'. We have decided to do 'Teen Crime' as inspired by Kidulthood and Boyz N The Hood.

Do you intend to conform to or challenge these openings?

We intend to conform these openings as we decided to keep the title sequences simple and clear about what the sub-genre is and also keep it in the theme of Teen Crime. Challenging the openings may sabotage the concept of the theme as many teens would not clearly get the message and may get confused as to what the film would be about.
In addition to this, we will make it as a typical Teen Crime title sequence like Kidulthood and Boyz N The Hood as this intrigues teenagers more as it gets straight to the plot and point of the film. For example, if the animations were to be more abstract than obvious then it would take teens longer to think about what the upcoming film is about and this may make them lose focus and interest of the film as it may seem complicated and twisted to them.
However, if it were to be for adults, then it may have been more interesting to them for it to be abstract as they like to look further into the meanings behind things.
