4 main categories of title sequences

4 main categories of title sequences

1) Titles on a blank screen
  • Historically most common
  • White typeface is mainly used to create a mass of contrast
  • Low budget

My view:
It is boring but good at introducing factors of production as we are not distracted by the animations, colours or etc.

2) Titles on still images:
  • More elaborate in comparison to titles on a blank coloured background
  • Incorporates texts and visuals at genre of film
  • Makes introduction longer
My View:
Sound hints at the genre of the film and also better to watch than only a blank screen with text.

3) Titles over images:
  • No dialogue
  • Includes credits, moving images and sounds.
  • Images offer narration to introduce storyline
My view:
It is good at establishing film whilst everything is being introduced so the audience doesn't get bored waiting and also keep the audience focused onto the film instead of getting distracted and bored of waiting.

4) Title using animation or motion
  • Use of animation text became popular in the 90s
  • Needs the help of digital technology
  • Title sequence seamlessly became apart of the title sequence

My view:
  • It is modern/recent
  • Incorporates into the story of the title sequence
